Here, in this code, because the top Command returns the fields of count and percent, the table command retains only the clientip value. Sourcetype=access_* status=200 action=purchase | stats count, distinct_count(productId), values(productId) by clientip Now, copy and paste the search below into the search bar and run the search in the editor. In Splunk, a sub search is enclosed in square brackets and evaluated first when reading the search criteria. Because we are searching the same data, the beginning of the external search is identical to the beginning of the sub search. The purchase search is referred to as the outer or primary search. The most frequent shopper search becomes the sub search for the purchase search. We provide the result of the most common search for shoppers as one of the search criteria for the purchases. We run a search on the same data to see what the shopper has ordered. Because with the table command, we specified only the clientip field, that is the only field that was returned.įrom the output, the count and percent fields produced by the top Command are discarded. The difference is the last piped instruction, table clientip, which shows the details about the clientip in a row. This search is nearly identical to the search in step 1 of Example 1. Here, this search returns the clientip, clientip=87.194.216.51, for the most frequent shopper. Sourcetype=access_* status=200 action=purchase | top limit=1 clientip | table clientip Now, Copy and paste the search below into the search bar and run the search. We will start our first requirement to identify the most frequent single shopper on the online store Buttercup Games. Example 2: Search with a sub search in the Splunk In every time range, the top buyer is not likely to be the same person. The downside to this method is that we will run two searches each time we want this table to be built. The values function is used as a multivalue field to show distinct product IDs. Use this feature to count the number of different or unique products the shopper has purchased. The dc () function is the function separct count. This search uses the count () function to give the VIP shopper the total number of purchases. An alias for the function separct count() is dc(). This search uses multiple statistical functions with the command Stats. Sourcetype=access_* status=200 action=purchase clientip=87.194.216.51 | stats count, distinct_count(productId), values(productId) by clientip Use the stats command to count this VIP Customer's purchases. Then we have to carry out another search to decide how many different items the VIP shopper has ordered. These are the default fields in which the top Command returns. The search also returns a percent and a count. In Splunk, this search returns one clienttip value, 87.194.216.51, to identify the VIP shopper. The clientip argument specifies the field to return. Here, the limit=1 argument specifies to return 1 value. Sourcetype=access_* status=200 action=purchase | top limit=1 clientip

This imbalance was famously exploited by Hannibal at the Battle of Cannae in 216BC, when the Carthaginian cavalry under Hasdrubal routed the weaker Roman cavalry while the crack Numidian light cavalry waylaid their Socii allies, such was the difference in troop quality. By tradition, Roman cavalry was habitually deployed on the right flank, while the equites extraordinarii were sent to the left. As there were typically two or three times the number of Socii than Roman cavalry, a consular army of two Legions could have some 1,800 Socii cavalry, of which at least 600 would be considered part of the elite equites extraordinarii. Up to a third of allied cavalry could be selected to join the equites extraordinarii. He has a passion for fermented foods like miso and soy sauce and now produces and sells them directly in Berlin (or in the ConFusion online shop). Its creator Markus Shimizu was born in Tokyo, where he spent the first eight years of his life. Miso(Paste) Miso(Liquid) Miso(Powder) Ingredient for. You can find outstanding and diverse varieties for example from the Berlin label Mimi Ferments. Ryotei no Aji, Ikyyu-San, Marukome Boy, Koji Bijin Miso Kyokaiseki and so on. Its colouring ranges from reddish to dark brown. Not only is it saltier, but it is typically fermented for much longer. In most recipes, a 1:1 ratio will be great. In addition to those two ingredients, most types of miso paste are also made from some type of rice or grain. Use soy sauce as a substitute for miso paste in sauces, stir-fries, marinades, and soups. Akamiso is by far the most intense and complex of the three. There are many different types of miso paste, but all of them are made with soybeans and koji ( Aspergillus oryzae ), a Japanese fungus that is developed using soybeans. Its colour varies between yellow and light brown tones. Shinshumiso is also rather mild, yet fermented a little longer than the white miso paste. Its salt content is also somewhat lower than most other varieties. This miso paste recipe makes for a great all-purpose mild yellow miso using koji rice (Shinshu Miso/Kome Miso). In terms of taste, it is the mildest, as it usually has the shortest fermentation process. How to make miso paste with just 4 ingredients, a simple process, and some patience. The most common subdivision of miso is as follows: White, yellow or red, what’s the difference? Nowadays, the basic ingredients haven’t really changed, but fermentation in traditional wooden barrels is rare as the whole trade has become industrialised with increasing demand. To get its unique flavor, the mixture ferments for anywhere from a couple months to years The longer it ages, the miso paste gets darker and more complex in flavor. The blend might also include barley, rice, rye or other grains. The longer the fermentation process takes, the more complex the flavour that develops. The soybeans are mixed with salt and koji, a mold that’s also used to make sake. The duration of fermentation varies from a few weeks to several years, which of course has an enormous influence on the taste of the paste. The effect of koji moulds is used for fermentation. This process takes place in wooden barrels weighted down with stones. However, there are also miso pastes that are made with barley or that do not contain any grain at all.įor traditional production, steamed soybeans are fermented with steamed grain. If you have flavoured or sea salt, thats great, but dont worry to much if. For example, wheat or rice can be chosen as the grain. Salt is the easiest and cheapest miso paste substitute, you already have at home. However, the exact composition of the ingredients varies greatly. 250ml of water 18g of salt 250g of soy beans, (or whichever grain/pulse/seed you choose) 40g of dried rice koji, make your own or available online 250ml of water 50g of salt 15g of miso paste 1 To make a 7 sweet miso, start by cooking the soy beans. The paste is typically made from soybeans, grain and salt. Miso is a seasoning paste that probably originated in China or Korea, but is now particularly popular in Japanese cuisine. What is miso and where does the intense flavour come from? You don’t need to press too hard on the paper when trying this technique. To create a looser drawing, hold the pencil further up the casing and sketch with sweeping strokes moving your elbow instead of your wrist or fingers. You could optionally erase messy lines and add in details afterwards, or you could leave the drawing as a sketch. With this approach, the aim is to focus on the big picture-the composition and interplay of different elements. Create a loose sketch before you start drawing your final outlines, then you can erase parts of lines that don’t fit with your drawing afterwards. It’s a useful technique to try, especially if you’re a beginner and only used to trying to achieve precise fine lines.īy sketching loosely, you can plan compositions and practice drawing accurately without worrying about making mistakes. This is an approach to sketching which will give the effect of a more relaxed and effortless style. If you’re drawing with coloured pencil, you can layer different colours on top of one another to alter the tones and hues. The circles don’t have to be neat, apply more pressure to the pencil for darker areas of the drawing. Scumbling is another shading technique, where small circular marks are layered on top of one another to create a textured appearance. Anything between 2B and 8B would work perfectly, depending on how dark you want the shading to be. Unsharpened pencils create softer lines, it’s also essential to use a soft pencil. To create an even shaded appearance, hold your pencil slightly at an angle and lightly move it backwards and forwards. Apply pressure on the pencil where you want to place the shadows in the artwork. This shading technique is pretty simple and the most intuitive of all the drawing techniques. Cross hatching creates a wonderful texture when you look at the drawing up close, but when you step away, it will appear as smoother shading. Use this technique in conjunction with others on the list to create a variety of effects. This is a versatile technique as you can use it with pen, graphite, charcoal or pen. Rembrandt used this drawing technique in his etchings, ink drawings and silver point pieces. Perpendicular lines are then drawn over the top of the first lines in a similar hatching style. Cross hatching Rembrandt used a mixture of hatching and cross hatching techniques in this etchingĬross hatching is a type of hatching, whereby parallel lines are drawn next to one another to create light and dark values. It may seem basic to reassess how you hold a pencil, but especially if you’re a self taught artist, basics are easy to miss out on. For extra long hatch lines, try keeping your elbow in one position and moving your shoulder to create pencil lines. This will create longer, lighter, more sweeping strokes for the hatched lines. This means instead of pressing hard on the lead and using your wrist to draw, try and draw by keeping your wrist straight and moving your elbow. To be successful at the hatching technique, hold the pencil in a loose fashion. Draw lines closer together to create dark values, lines further from one another create highlights and mid tones in a drawing. Apply more pressure to the pencil for the darkest areas. Hatching is the technique of creating parallel lines to give the illusion of light and shadow. So by using these different shading techniques, you can create highlights, shadows and give your drawing depth and form. In art, a value is the relative lightness or darkness of a colour. These techniques will allow you to create values in your artwork. The following methods of hatching, stippling and tonal sketching are all types of shading techniques. Start with basic shapes to measure proportions, then use these guides to fill in the features of the face. One constructive method of drawing that head that can act as an accurate portrait underdrawing is the Loomis Method. To improve the accuracy of your drawing, you could create a sketch on another piece of paper first, then transfer it with tracing paper or with the grid method. Then build on this layer afterwards with layers of shading. This is especially true for pieces that require more accuracy or time investment.ĭraw a fine, light line to outline the main features of your subject. The underdrawing acts as the first layer of an artwork, it can form the first stage of the drawing process. Most artists will use this process to plan out where the elements fit before committing to dark lines which are more difficult to erase. The concept of layering in drawing, refers to the process of starting with a light sketch then slowly building in the dark areas to create shadow. Graphite isn’t a transparent medium, so you can create a finished looking piece all in one layer. Layering pencil marks isn’t the same as layering paint. Paint removers take off most finishes and are particularly good at getting rid of thick layers of paint and varnish. The best product for stripping old, damaged items like beams.Perfect if you want that “natural look”.Last of all, you might have to work a bit harder to remove heavy paint build-ups than with a caustic Solvents can also have a strong odour and must only be used in very well-ventilated areas. On the downside, you tend to use more of it, so it can end up more expensive than a caustic stripper. There’s no discolouration and solvents get the wood cleaner, deeper down into the grain. They are usually very gentle on the wood and won’t damage it, which is why they’re used in the antique trade. Paint removers take off all kinds of finishes, even contemporary ones. Also, check the manufacturer’s instructions to see if you need to neutralise the stripped woodwork.” Different types of chemical wood stripper To get a chemical stripper into nooks and crannies on intricate woodwork, use wire wool. Protect the floor with dust sheets or thick newspaper. Make sure you keep the area you’re working in well ventilated. You will need to follow the manufacturer’s instructions as these vary. “Chemical strippers, available from DIY stores, are good for intricately carved wood. Care needs to be taken when using chemical strippers, however, as these present their own care and safety issues.Īs Kirsty Allsop says on the Channel 4 Homes website: Paint removers deliver the best results, remove varnishes and paints faster than sanding, and tend to be the least harsh. Chemical stripping is the best method for stripping carved wood with hard-to-reach, intricate areas, but in reality, you will probably use a combination of mechanical and chemical methods for your project, especially if you have layer-upon-layer of old paint to take off. Chemical.Bear in mind, also, that a hot air gun can only be used as a paint remover, not a varnish remover as varnishes tend to go very gooey, almost glue-like, when heated. Scorching is less important, of course, when you’re planning to re-paint the wood. An electric hot air gun removes paint in no time but can scorch the wood if you’re not careful. There’s plenty of good advice online about sanding wood to perfection, and some excellent guidance here on the Period Property website. Whether you’re sanding by hand or with a machine, experts recommend you take it slow and easy until you get a feel for it. Power tools help because their design forces you to apply even pressure. A quick word about sandpaper and wire wool, both of which can cause damage to wood unless you take it easy… When you sand wood you take the surface off, and you need to do it as evenly as possible without rubbing it thin in places or creating gouges. Sanding is best kept for small projects unless you want to hire an industrial sander to remove paint and varnish from your floor. There are three ways of removing paint from wood: sanding, using a hot air gun and chemical Exterior and interior doors and door frames.Paint remover, even heavily-carved wood, as long as you use the right products and materials and follow the instructions meticulously, particularly if you want to strip something expensive, rare or precious. Much better than the bad old days when your only choice was pure caustic soda, nasty stuff! What kinds of wood can you strip? Thankfully contemporary stripping products are relatively simple, effective and safe to use. Whatever you want to do, first you’ll need to get all of that rubbish off the surface to reveal the stunning wood beneath. You may have found a fabulous piece of old furniture smothered with nasty, brown, shiny varnish that’s begging for some TLC, or you might suspect there’s something really special under all those layers of ancient paint on your doors. You might be the lucky owner of a lovely period home, or have an old wood floor that you’re sure will come up beautifully with a bit of work. Paint stripper and scraper Removing paint from wood Fast and effective removal of paint using a It pushes an already expensive product to a less than ideal price. This holds true across their product line, and that $99 price tag is a little much. Casper offers free shipping, something that almost all direct to consumer mattress companies offer at this point, but Saatva do not. The Thing about the figures below though is that they do not tell the whole story. $850 for the Queen from Casper, with Loom and Leaf charging near a grand. The Casper is a less expensive mattress, and considering what you get in it it is a bargain and a half. Winner – Loom and Leaf Casper Vs Loom and Leaf Mattress – Pricing & Returns PolicyĪ section that goes in Casper’s favor from start to finish this. I have to give this section to the Loom and Leaf, but the Casper is by no means a bad option if you know you want to save a bit of money and get a firmer mattress. On one side we have the Casper, a nice, efficient posture correction machine, and on the other we have the Loom and Leaf, the pinnacle of mattress tech decadence. Winner – Loom and Leaf Loom and Leaf Vs Casper Overall Review I will say this, they plush nature of the entire line makes it a little harder on your back, but by no means is it actually hard. It means we can get the luxurious hug of 4 inches of memory foam without the downside of being slow roasted during the night. Two memory foam layers? Won’t that be ridiculously hot? Well that final memory foam layer is gel infused, meaning that heat retention isn’t even a thing here. The Final layer is more memory foam, and I know what you’re thinking. At base we have 5.5 inches of support foam, followed by a thin transition layer that allow the base foam to move well with the memory foam that comes next. A four tier system is in play here, five if you include the quilted topper material as a layer. The Loom and Leaf is a more complicated build. Latex foam does not cause allergic reactions either, so good news there. The memory foam’s heat retention is dissipated by the latex foam, and the porous nature of the topper material, and the extra inch or so of support foam creates a sleeping experience best suited to those with back issues. The Casper has three tiers of foam, a 7″ high density base foam layer topped by 1.5″ of memory foam and a final 1.5 inches of latex foam. The Casper appears rudimentary by comparison to the Loom and Leaf, but its simplifies design allows for a far more focused experience. On to the insides, and the Casper has a few aces here. Not a hard section to call, the better topper is the Loom and Leaf. Don’t get me wrong, the Loom and Leaf is no Picasso, but it looks more bed-like if you know what I mean, quilted, soft and criss-crossed, almost cliche “Bedness”. Aesthetically the Casper is not much to write home about either. It pales in comparison in all other ways, I am sad to say. The only benefit the Casper’s Poly-blend has over the Loom and Leaf is its durability. Cotton is that perfect blend of porousness, durability and comfort that cannot be found with any other single material. The Loom and Leaf uses a 100% cotton topper, quilted for extra comfort, by comparison to the relatively pedestrian Poly-blend used by the Casper. The Topper material of the Loom and Leaf is one of the best on the market, making ti somewhat unfair to compare it to the more cost effect options from Casper. On to the the mattress proper, and we have some very different design philosophies at work. Casper Vs Loom and Leaf Mattress Build Quality and Materials I realize that philanthropy is not a competition, but we must judge them regardless and in this case it is clear that Saatva are far and away in the lead. I have emailed them looking for more information, but have thus far not received word back. Speaking of Casper, I have been unable to dig up any information on their charitable donations. They also donate all returned mattresses to charity, though that is something that can be matched by Casper. Since then I have learned an awful lot about the work Saatva do with the under privileged, not to mention there work back during Hurricane Sandy. In the days before I knew better this section would have been a lot closer. It has only been 12 years and has grown rapidly in popularity. NodeJS was introduced in 2009 as a server-side platform. This blog will shed light on the different versions of NodeJS and which one you should use. It has a non-blocking and event-driven architecture, which is ideal for building real-time, data-intensive, lightweight applications that run on bifurcated systems. NodeJS is an insanely popular JavaScript runtime that enables the development of web-based, scalable and highly interactive applications. It’s relatively easier for developers to work on different projects at the same time than constantly juggling between different versions of a technology stack, which is tedious and cumbersome. # and paste into your ~/.bashrc file so proper env vars get set # whichever id you execute this as determines the id you will issue npm commands as: npm install -g foo-bar execute this script as yourself unless you choose a root-owned value for var CODE_PARENT_DIR # edit two vars in below : NODE_VER and CODE_PARENT_DIR The below script will allow you to install any of those nodejs versions on linux or OSX #!/bin/bash Then execute the below script once you edit with the desired nodejs version and its install parent directory I suggest you first remove all nodejs installs So we see that everything is completely contained inside the specific node version. Now test it out with a dummy package: npm install -global vaca Install NVM and the latest Node LTS version: curl | sh NVM was mentioned at: but here goes a more complete usage example, including the sane -lts version, which installs the latest Long Term Support version of Node, which is likely the one you want if you don't have more specific requirement. As soon as you install the latest stable version of node, npm will automatically be updated to its latest stable version. If you are struggling with updating npm to the latest stable version because you are stuck at a specific version of npm and every time you update it that doesn't work then you can use this method to update npm as well. Use nvm ls to see what Node versions you have installed and nvm uninstall stable(or a specific version number) to remove a specific version of Node. Use nvm use stable (or a specific version number) to use that Node version. Then use nvm install stable (or insert a version number instead of stable) to get the latest/a specific version of Node. To install NVM globally instead, use the following curl command instead of the one above (and presumably don't use the second command but do use the third one) curl -o- | NVM_DIR=/usr/local/nvm bash Note: this branch of io.js is not actively maintained and is not recommended for production use. (The only obstacle to this is, like others have said, improper loading speeds in the game when you're traveling at high speeds in vehicles. You can always hear the majorly dangerous creatures from far away, long before they aggro you. Subnautica? I find it's a great balance between "it's all in your head" and fulfilling the tense expectations. I don't know how severe you've got it, but I can at least say I have an idea of where you're coming from-large, open water sections have been something I've specifically noticed I don't mentally handle well, even when in times know for a fact that nothing unexpected will happen. And don't even get me started on the entire Great Bay area in Majora's Mask, particularly Pinnacle Rock and its. Heck, there are some places in the Wind Waker that I still haven't looked at to this day because of the Sea Hat enemies and how helpless they make me feel when they knock me out of the boat, even though I know there's nothing in the water that I'm actually vulnerable to. The eel boss in Mario Sunshine gave me a lot of similar issues, and it didn't even move. So I similarly have a fear of vast, open water situations-not clinically confirmed or anything, but the eel situation you mentioned in SM64 was one of the most terrifying parts of my childhood, and it was many years before I was able to confront it (and even then, only on the smaller screen of the DS version!). And while there are no true jumpscares, all the anticipation it naturally builds can make any mildly surprising event feel like a jumpscare.īut hear me out a bit, because I think I came from a similar place to you, yet Subnautica became one of my favorite exploration-type games. If you have a fear of open water, Subnautica will be a pretty terrifying experience-it kind of capitalizes on that feeling. Keep your eyes peeled, and I think you will be alright. You'll likely see them before they see you, and to avoid any creature, just keep your distance. The rest of the hostile fauna in the game are typically easy to notice and don't really provide any sort of jump scare. To get them off, hit them with your other arm, or continue swimming. This could provide a jump scare if you don't see these small creatures and all of a sudden they latch onto you. They also make quite a lot of noise when they begin to swim at you.īleeders are fairly small, and latch onto the players arm and begin to deal damage. This isn't much of a scare unless you completely miss their noticeable pods. They will explode after about 5 seconds of chasing you. If you get too close to their pods, they open up, and begin to fly at you. Just keep your distance to avoid them.Ĭrashfish reside inside of their pods in the Safe Shallows. Typically, you can see them sitting inside of the holes on top of the mushrooms first. They can pop out of the top of these mushrooms and attack you. If you get too close to them while they are controlling you, you will take damage.Ĭrabsnakes hide inside of the giant purple jelly mushrooms in the Jellyshroom Cave. When they do this, you will begin to swim towards them automatically (which you can resist), and your suit will begin talking to you saying to swim towards the creature. Mesmers can sometimes appear invisible looking (although I believe this is not intended), and they take control of your movement slightly. It teleports to you/around you, and can teleport you to it (even if you are in a vehicle), and attack you. The Warper can spawn right in front of you (and this is intended). It would be hard to be jump scared by them as you typically can see them before they see you. They make a very noticeable sound and are aggressive, however the area that you run into them is very large, making avoiding them fairly easy. Sea Dragon Leviathans are a massive creature that are thankfully very far down in the ocean (~1400m+). You can see their fin sticking out of the sand usually. Typically, this is rare, but it is possible. Sand Sharks can bury themselves in the sand and pop out and bite you. Reaper Leviathans have a very noticeable sound that you can hear quite easily however. This can be made worse if you are in a Seamoth traveling fast and all of a sudden a Reaper spawns right in front of you. They are aggressive, and can kill you fairly fast. This is partly because sometimes the game doesn't spawn them right away until you are too close to really get away (I don't think this is suppose to happen, as it is odd to unfairly spawn a dangerous creature like this in front of you - it's likely a bug). Reaper Leviathans can tend to sneak up on you. Here are some instances you might get a jump scare at: I would say yes, there are jump scares, but not intentionally. “There’s an opportunity to meet all of the performers before, during intermission and after the concert.
